Whiskey Thief Distilling Co. has been turning heads as a very-welcome recent addition to The Kentucky Bourbon Trail. A craft distillery just outside of Frankfort, KY (formerly known as Three Boys Distillery), Whiskey Thief is located on a sprawling 127-acre working farm. The always-bustling Distillery building just down the gravel road is quickly becoming best known for its unique, hands-on "thieving and tasting" experience which is a signature part of its tour.

Recently, the distillery also made news when Lisa Wicker joined the team as The Director of Distilling! When it comes to the business of bourbon, Lisa Wicker has done just about everything in her 20+ year career in the industry. From New York to Indiana to Kentucky, Lisa has tackled roles with such as Master Blender, Mater Distiller and even CEO at different spirits companies.

Now Lisa is back at the Bourbon Base Camp to share with Burn riders what’s new and what’s next at The Whiskey Thief Distilling Company…and she’s bringing along some of her favorite pours!

The distillery walks the walk when they talk about craft and bottle releases that are available in limited quantities. All of their bourbons & rye whiskies are sold exclusively on-site at their two locations in Franklin County and Louisville. So. if you’re visiting The Burn from out of state, this is your chance to discover and taste through some whiskey that you certainly won’t find on store shelves at home.

The story of Heaven Hill is a remarkable one. And in an industry with a lot of remarkable stories, that’s saying something! The Distillery was founded in 1935 by the five Shapira brothers: David, Ed, Gary, George, and Mose who roughly zero about bourbon. The family had a background in department-stores and clothing and invested in the distillery shortly after the end of Prohibition sensing a tremendous opportunity. Today, Heaven Hill is counted among the largest whiskey distilleries in America with more award-winning brands that you can count on all of your fingers & toes including Elijah Craig, Evan Williams, Larceny, Parker’s Heritage, Henry McKenna and may more.

Bourbon Expert Steve Coomes will be in the tasting tent to lead this presentation. For 45 years, Steve has pursued flavor with a passion. An 11-year career in restaurants inspired him to cover that industry for 33 years as an award-winning journalist and author of multiple books. When that work led him to write about American whiskey and tequila, he also began teaching on those spirits in 2015. As the owner of Sip Smart, Steve now travels the country entertaining and educating groups about the virtues of potent potables and how to pair them with foods!
